The weight (kg / m3) is measured with a moisture percentage of approx.12%. Sycamore has got an attractive price and is known for its large widths. Sycamore is similar to maple, the wood is mainly comprised of sapwood with some darker heartwood streaks in most boards. Notice that it is not uncommon to see entire boards of heartwood occasionally. Its white sapwood is clearly to distinguish from its darker reddish brown heartwood.

Sycamore has got a beautifull wood figure. Moreover, the wood is classified as moderate in weight, hardness, stiffness and shock resistance. Also, the wood machines well.

 

Interesting facts:

* Due to the freckled appearance (caused by ray flecks) of quartersawn Sycamore, it is even called “Lacewood” sometimes.

* Sycamore contains the property to self-lubricate. Therefore, in America it is often used for the sides of wooden drawers.
